what a great weekend! of course, if steve hadn't gotten sick, it would have been better, but i've learned not to peg my hopes for anything on his health. still, i really enjoyed not having much planned.

friday night we met up with dave and erin for ice skating at millennium park. i honestly don't know why we haven't done it before -- the only cost is that of the skate rental, and it's only a few blocks away. i am not usually very enthusiastic about doing things that i'm not good at, and i suck at skating, since i've only gone a few times in my life. however, i really enjoyed it (although my ankles hurt like hell). the people watching was fabulous, too! and then we went to the Park Grill which had amazing french onion soup (i find it *really* hard to say no to french onion soup in the winter) and a lovely cheese tray. oh yeah, and the food was good too. plus, we were having such a great time chatting that we hogged our table for over three hours. an excellent beginning to the weekend!

my bookclub and i met tonight, and since our selection last month was candyfreak. fun, but not as much of an overall hit as i had hoped. however, we met at the ghiradelli store and ice cream shop and boy, oh boy, was it ridiculous. six women downing huge sundaes, then going through simultaneous sugar highs. we all crashed simultaneously too, of course.

our book selection for next month is going to definitely spark some great conversation. hmmm... we even discussed potentially meeting at one of the "toy stores" in town where they have small group demos. i guess this is a good indicator (beyond my personal opinion) that we've coalesced into a pretty close group! i'm just not sure that i'm comfortable with there being a photo of the author in the book. sometimes i think things are better left to one's (overactive) imagination. however, i guess if i look that thin and happy when i'm in my late 60s, i guess i'd include a photo in the book too!
