i was a bit bummed about having so much work to do that i had to work a bit over the weekend and a full day today, which our company had off. argh.
luckily, steve convinced me to go to yoga tonight to mellow out and cheer up, and now i'm feeling much better about my weekend. after all, it was still a pretty damn exciting weekend:

erin came to town on friday night after a superfun business trip to indiana, and we had yummy pan-asiany food and even yummier drinks. i had never had a "frozen gingerale" before, but i'm tempted to try it at home. i believe all i need is some gingerale and some lemon vodka. mmm... sounds good right now, actually.

and then on saturday i went to a yoga class at the gym with a teacher i hadn't had before. i'm always proud of myself when i do that, since i have definitely had teachers before where i was unhappy afterward. :( this teacher was okay. it wasn't a great discovery where i really want to go to her class every week like my monday night instructor (or christy!) but it wasn't bad. and i awarded myself bonus points for trying something new.

after yoga, i was lucky enough to get to hang out with bruce and vanessa. they called up saturday morning and wanted to head out to visit so that they could ikea on sunday. they were very brave for going over a holiday weekend! b+v + i went out for mexifeast on saturday night and then once steve got in from his biz trip we played many rounds of showbiz shuffle. woohoo!

sunday we went to cambridge house for breakfast.

i'd always wanted to check it out, since it's the un-modernized sort of diner that has a winding counter in the center of the room and an expansive old-timey menu. it wasn't the exciting discovery i was hoping for -- and it wasn't at all sleepy either! the place was bustling, and it had several rooms adjacent to the main one. we were a bit surprised that there was no breakfast combo that included both eggs and pancakes (!). hmmm... however, i give the service an A+ since coffee and water were both refilled multiple times as soon as they got low, and the food appeared less than 5 minutes after ordering. nice.

okay, now this is where i start to bore ya'll even further by telling you about a stupid little thing that's been annoying me and how i was finally able to fix it on sunday! well, steve and i have never been as good with plants as we'd like. but i like the look of organic things in a living space, since i think it makes it more homey. so awhile back i was at a florist talking with them about their various plants and got so freaked out about the many options and how expensive the tall cool tree-like plants were that i bought a bunch of (dead) curly willow branches about 7 1/2 feet tall. i figured i could put them in our living room in some sort of tall pot and it would look cool like a tree, but would be un-killable. right. so i walk the really tall things home (which i'm sure was amusing for the people i passed on the columbus street bridge), fit them diagonally in the elevator, and set them up against the wall in the living room. and they look COOL. steve even likes them. but alas, we have no tall pot. and so i start my quest. i browsed through every home decor catalog (you know, like restoration crate + pottery) and there's nothing over 20 inches tall. and they're all ugly. so this week i get an email with a 20% off coupon "on any one item" at pier one. low and behold, i had never thought to look at pier one (i guess because it's not really all that close to where i live and i don't have a car). so on sunday bruce and vanessa gave me a ride to pier one when they headed out to ikea, and within five minutes i had found a three feet tall alabastery type vase that i really dig (go to pier1.com and check out oh-so-exciting item #01922739). stupid, i know, but now the branches look superawesome in it, and i even got a cab for the ride home within 10 seconds. my life is just that much more awesome.

and yet, it keeps improving!

after finally finding a vase/urn/willowbranch storage device, i thought life couldn't improve any further in one weekend. but then we went to schuba's, where my old high school buddy fred thomasw's band, saturday looks good to me, was playing.
i hadn't seen fred in years, but it was soooo good to see him. way back in high school his band played my high school graduation party. :) and he's still rockin'. he was so sweet to me (he gave a shoutout to lincoln high school grads in attendance!) and his band was so cute and poppy. they're heading off to europe on tour this spring, so see 'em beforehand if you can, since i'm sure they'll get to be HUGELY popular in denmark and then you won't be able to see them stateside again. and if you can't see them, well at least buy the CD "every night" which is v. v. good (as bridget jones would say). i bought a whole bunch of merch from him, and i hope they rock the pants off copenhagen.

so yeah, even though i had to work today, my weekend still rocked. now i guess i should stop rockin' and get to bed.
