i'm in london. and they're crazy for soccer (sorry, football) here. but they're not happy tonight.
and this country is silly for it.
so after all of my wandering around today shopping, i walked past a pub where there was standing room only to watch the last part of the match.
i stood and watched for awhile, but it was boring and it didn't look like it was going to get better, so i came back here to my trusty holiday inn and watched the last three minutes on the big screen in the common room. and England was ahead 1-0 (booooring!). and when time was up they added three minutes to the match, since i guess they keep track of how much time is wasted and then tack that on (interesting tactic!). and then the French scored. and then England f***ed up and the French got a penalty kick. and then the French won. i think the whole country is going to be in mourning tomorrow. i'm glad i didn't buy steve an "England" shirt today (i thought about it) -- it would suck to take it home and have to say "here's a really cool shirt i bought for you. while i was there the team suffered a devastating loss!") i just can't believe they were ahead going in to overtime and then lost it. nuts! well, at least it gave me something fun to do (sorta) on a sunday night while i'm all alone. travelling is fun, but it's difficult sometimes to figure out what to do at night when you're alone. i don't feel very comfortable hanging out in a pub alone. and tonight i think a pub would be the *worst* place to be. mass depression out there tonight, folks!
get this: i just read in the paper about an annual race done here in the uk where a man races a horse for 35km. this year the man won, for the first time ever. check it out. weird.
