news that really bums me out: the much ballyhooed $650 million las vegas monorail's problems have only gotten worse. the monorail opened july 15 (six months late) and was closed on sept. 8 after two incidents

a wheel fell off on Sept. 1, and on Sept. 8 a washer fell from a guideway, landing on a power rail next to the track and causing sparks. apparently now they've given up on announcing that the monorail will open again

sheesh.

in other sin city news, it's been announced where the Hooters casino will be: the san remo hotel and casino will undergo a $120 million update (which will take about a year). don't let the renovation pricetag freak you out, though: a member of the Hooters casino ownership group identified the casino's target clientele as ``middle America. Hooters is football, it's NASCAR, it's golf, it's wings, it's beer,' he said. and he pledged that room rates will be reasonable, at about $100/night!
