here are the top baby names of 2009 (which i guess means they're assuming that there won't be any crazy shifts in trends in the last two weeks of the year. i'm so relieved that the name rex is still not popular. i would hate for him to have to be "rex h." in school because there were 5 other rex-es in his class!

i loved this photo essay about san francisco. some of the photos are truly amazing. i though that most of the photographers' self-descriptions were annoying and too hipsterish, with the exception of robert otani's, at which i laughed out loud.
