sorry it's been awhile since i've posted anything saying what i've been up to. my college roommate dropped me a line and it made me realize that i hadn't even said where i went on vacation with my mom.
well, mums and i went to traverse city, michigan. she doesn't fly and loves northern michigan, and since it was her birthday, she was the boss. it certainly wasn't where i would have chosen to spend 12 hours traveling to (to/from airport, flight, + 5 hours driving) but it ended up being really lovely. even eating at a 'fancy' restaurant there is relatively inexpensive and we had great, sunny weather for most of our trip. we got along really well (with only one minor spat) and so overall the trip was a success, and i think we'll both have great memories of it.
i realized on that trip that i don't think i've ever been to traverse city. i guess i may have driven through at some point, but i was completely thrown off by the layout of the main 'strip' of hotels, which are right on the water, but are also right on a pretty major (for that part of the world) highway. i definitely don't remember that, and i think i would have.
my favorite part of the trip was that my mom and i took a drive over to the town of boyne city, where my family used to camp for a week every summer at young state park. we walked through the campground, sat on the beach for awhile, and i took a lot of photos (which eventually i'll post). it was really cheesy of me, but i got pretty nostalgic and choked up.
this past weekend we were gone again, to a wedding in chicago. one of my coworkers (who used to work in my group on the McD's account) got married, and it was really lovely. they're a damn attractive couple, and the wedding was at a really beautiful historic church with tiffany windows. we were hoping that the wedding reception would be wild, since she has a large family and his family was coming in from nigeria for the event, but it ended quite early (it was a sunday evening wedding after all). however, they looked stunning -- especially in the traditional nigerian outfits they wore at the reception -- and we had a great time. again, i should post pictures.
it's late, and we didn't get home until nearly 1 am last night (darn late flight!) so i'm going to wrap up by telling you all that i miss you lots. :)
